Community Advocate - Mossel Bay (Remote)

About the Role Our client is looking for a highly motivated and dedicated Community Advocate to join their team on a fully remote basis, serving the Mossel Bay, Western Cape region. This crucial role involves empowering community members by connecting them with essential services, advocating for their rights, and fostering greater access to resources. You will act as a vital link between the community and support systems, helping individuals navigate complex challenges and achieve positive outcomes. Key Responsibilities

• Identifying and engaging with community members needing support or advocacy.
• Providing information and guidance on available social services, healthcare, legal aid, and other resources.
• Assisting individuals in navigating application processes and accessing services.
• Advocating for the rights and needs of community members with relevant stakeholders and institutions.
• Developing and maintaining a comprehensive database of community resources in the Western Cape.
• Organizing and facilitating online information sessions and workshops for the community.
• Collecting feedback from the community to identify emerging needs and service gaps.
• Collaborating with the client's remote team and local partners to enhance service delivery.
• Maintaining accurate and confidential records of client interactions and advocacy efforts.
• Promoting community engagement and self-advocacy among residents of Mossel Bay.

Requirements

• Proven experience in community advocacy, social work, outreach, or a related field.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly.
• Strong understanding of social issues, community needs, and available resources within South Africa.
• Demonstrated ability to build rapport and trust with diverse individuals remotely.
• Proficiency in using digital communication tools (video conferencing, email, messaging platforms).
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
• A proactive and self-motivated approach, essential for remote work.
• Familiarity with the Mossel Bay or broader Western Cape community is an asset.
