About the Role

Our client is looking for a knowledgeable and experienced Employment Law Specialist to join their fully remote legal department. This role is critical for advising the business on all aspects of employment law, ensuring compliance with labor legislation, and managing employee relations issues. You will work closely with HR and management to develop policies, handle disputes, and provide strategic legal counsel. The ideal candidate is an expert in employment law, capable of independent work, and committed to fostering a fair and compliant workplace from a remote setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert legal advice on employment law matters, including hiring, termination, discrimination, and wage and hour issues.
  • Draft, review, and update employment contracts, policies, and employee handbooks.
  • Represent the company in employment-related disputes, mediations, and litigation.
  • Advise HR and management on best practices for employee relations and performance management.
  • Ensure compliance with all national and provincial labor laws and regulations.
  • Conduct investigations into workplace grievances and harassment claims.

Requirements

  • Admitted attorney with a minimum of 6 years of specialized experience in employment law.
  • In-depth knowledge of South African labor law, including the BCEA, LRA, and EEA.
  • Proven experience in handling employment litigation and dispute resolution.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent judgment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage sensitive legal matters remotely.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
