Estate Planning Lawyer (Part Time) | Fully Remote | Autonomy + Flexibility

Looking for an experienced estate planning lawyer who wants autonomy, flexibility and meaningful client work, without time billing or court appearances.

We are a fully online, boutique estate planning firm with a small, close-knit virtual team. We work primarily with families across NSW, QLD and VIC, and also assist clients in WA and the ACT.

We specialise exclusively in:

  • Wills with testamentary discretionary trusts
  • Wealth and asset protection structures, such as family trust succession

We want to be upfront about the kind of lawyer this role suits. This is a highly autonomous position and is not an entry level role. You will have the support and supervision of our Principal and work alongside another senior lawyer, but you will not be micromanaged day to day. You will run your own matters from first meeting through to signing, backed by a strong precedent system, a comprehensive online training platform, paralegal support and a well-established virtual team. We will show you how we do things and give you everything you need to do them well. From there, we trust you to be self-directed, to learn our processes and procedures thoroughly, and to take full ownership of your files and client relationships.

Estate planning experience is essential. Testamentary discretionary trusts sit at the heart of what we do, so a strong working knowledge of them is preferred. If your experience is in broader estate planning, we would still like to hear from you, provided you have a real interest in this area and are ready to upskill quickly through our comprehensive training program. You will need to be a fast learner, because explaining, presenting and delivering testamentary discretionary trusts to clients with confidence will be a core part of your role. If you have not yet worked in estate planning at all, this particular role will not be the right fit, though we would welcome hearing from you down the track once you have gained that experience.

Before you apply

We are a small, family-focused firm, and every person on our team matters to us. Work-life balance is important to us as we are all parents and we structure the way we work around family, but never at the expense of the quality of our advice. We are passionate about what we and very hard working. Our clients are families, and we serve them in a way that respects both their legal needs and their family life. Please take a few minutes to review our website at www.familyfirstestateplanning.com.au before applying. We would love to hear from lawyers who understand what we do, believe in the way we do it, and feel drawn to where we are heading.

What you will be doing

  • Running estate planning matters end to end, from initial client meeting through to signing
  • Conducting engaging client meetings over Zoom and building rapport quickly
  • Preparing wills with testamentary discretionary trusts, powers of attorney, enduring guardianship and related core estate planning documents using our precedents
  • Preparing corporate powers of attorney and deeds of successor appointors for family trusts
  • Guiding clients through their options with warmth and clarity so they feel confident to complete their planning
  • Contributing to the growth of the firm by working towards matter completion targets in a fully fixed-fee environment
  • Working closely with our paralegal and virtual team in a fast-paced environment

What we are looking for

  • No fewer than two years of hands-on estate planning experience (essential)
  • Strong working knowledge of testamentary discretionary trusts and how they operate in practice (strongly preferred), or solid estate planning experience with a real interest in upskilling in this area
  • Fast learner, engaged and keen to make testamentary discretionary trusts a core part of your practice
  • Confidence running matters independently without day-to-day supervision
  • Very comfortable running engaging client meetings via Zoom
  • Very comfortable with online, cloud-based and automated systems (we run a streamlined, modern practice)
  • Sharp attention to detail
  • Warm, engaging and positive with clients, with the ability to help people move from "we really should sort this out" to signed documents
  • Comfortable with pace, hard-working, and able to manage a busy file load
  • Highly motivated, self-directed and keen to learn our systems from the training, precedents and resources provided
  • Located in NSW (preferred, but open to discussion)

What we offer

  • $110,000 per annum package (pro rata for part-time hours)
  • 3 days per week, 9am to 5pm (ideally), fully remote
  • No time billing and no court appearances
  • Fully fixed-fee matters and excellent precedents
  • Streamlined, modern practice built on online and automated systems
  • Paralegal and VA support
  • Supportive, close-knit virtual team environment

please note that we are only able to progress applications from lawyers with relevant estate planning experience.
