Lead Geologist - Remote

About the Role

Our client, a prominent player in the global energy market, is seeking an experienced and visionary Lead Geologist to spearhead geological exploration and evaluation efforts. This is a fully remote role, enabling you to contribute your expertise from any location within South Africa. You will be responsible for leading geological teams, defining exploration strategies, and ensuring the successful identification and characterization of hydrocarbon resources. Your insights will be critical in guiding exploration campaigns and de-risking potential prospects. This position demands strong leadership, advanced geological interpretation skills, and the ability to foster collaboration among geoscientists and other disciplines in a remote work environment. We are looking for a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of sedimentary basins and exploration techniques.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead geological interpretation of seismic data, well logs, and core data to identify and evaluate hydrocarbon prospects.
• Develop and implement regional and field-specific exploration strategies.
• Oversee the creation and validation of 3D geological models.
• Mentor and guide junior geologists and geoscience teams.
• Collaborate closely with reservoir engineers and geophysicists on integrated field studies.
• Prepare detailed geological reports and presentations for management and joint venture partners.
• Manage geological databases and ensure data quality control.
• Evaluate and recommend drilling targets based on robust geological risk assessment.

Requirements

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geology, Geophysics, or a related earth science discipline.
• Over 10 years of relevant experience in oil and gas exploration geology, with a significant portion in a lead or supervisory role.
• Extensive experience with seismic interpretation software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom Suite).
• In-depth knowledge of sequence stratigraphy, sedimentology, and structural geology.
• Proven track record in prospect generation and evaluation in various geological settings.
• Strong leadership and team management skills, suitable for leading a remote team.
• Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
• Familiarity with well logging interpretation and core analysis techniques.
