Location: Germany (Local Hire – Frankfurt / Berlin / Munich)A boutique-to-mid-size specialist engineering consultancy with a strong reputation in mission-critical and hyperscale data centre design is expanding its German team and is seeking a Senior / Lead Mechanical Design Engineer.This consultancy is recognised for delivering high-performance cooling and mechanical infrastructure for some of Europe’s largest data centre developments.
Engineers work closely with clients, architects, and project delivery teams, playing a key role in shaping design strategies rather than simply producing drawings.You will lead the mechanical design on major data centre projects, acting as a technical authority within multidisciplinary teams and client-facing environments.
Key Responsibilities• Lead mechanical design for hyperscale and colocation data centres
• Develop cooling strategies including chilled water, CRAH/CRAC, and liquid cooling systems
• Design and review HVAC systems, plant rooms, and mechanical distribution networks
• Manage coordination with electrical, structural, and architectural disciplines
• Review and approve mechanical calculations, specifications, and technical drawings
• Provide technical leadership across concept, detailed design, and IFC stages
• Support construction teams and commissioning activities
• Ensure compliance with German regulations and international standards
Requirements
• Degree-qualified Mechanical Engineer / Building Services Engineer
• Proven data centre mechanical design experience (essential)
• Strong understanding of HVAC, chilled water systems, cooling redundancy, and thermal management
• Experience working within engineering consultancies or technical advisory roles
• Locally based in Germany (local hire only)
