Power System Studies Engineer - PJM - REMOTE (US or CANADA)

Arbeitsort
Ottawa, Deutschland

Stellenbeschreibung

PJM's queue reform has triggered the largest wave of interconnection studies the market has seen in over a decade - and engineers who can actually do this work are in short supply. root/edge is retained by a growing energy technology firm that pairs power systems expertise with purpose-built software platforms to help utilities and developers run interconnection and grid studies faster and at scale.

You'll join a small, focused team and report directly to the Director - no layers, no waiting your turn. Responsibility lands fast: you'll be building things that matter within months, not shadowing for years. It's hands-on from day one, and you're backed by real tooling and an established firm, not figuring it out alone.

What you'll own:

  • Hands-on PSS®E work across the full spectrum of PJM and MISO interconnection studies - stand-alone, clustered, as-built, surplus, expedited, and necessary
  • Data review and validation for short circuit, load flow, and stability studies through PJM's Queue Point platform
  • Dynamic model development, including generic and user-defined models (UDMs)
  • Troubleshooting, validation, and fine-tuning of load flow and dynamic models to PJM's Dynamic Modeling Design Guide (DMDG) requirements
  • MFO and reactive power capability assessments for PJM compliance
  • Scope of Work (SOW) development, contingency definition, and dispatch list creation across PJM/MISO areas including AEP, ComEd, DVP, DPL, PECO, PEPCO, and PSEG
  • Building study base cases and clustering queue projects across PJM study cycles
  • Coordinating directly with Transmission Owners to resolve comments and finalize deliverables
  • Stability analysis under stressed system conditions and contingency scenarios
  • Advising developers on deficiencies, model tuning, and mitigation strategies

What you bring:

  • 3+ years of power systems engineering experience, including at least 9-12 months working directly on PJM studies
  • Hands-on proficiency with PSS®E
  • Comfort operating anywhere from Senior to Principal level - we'll calibrate the seat to your experience

Why now:

PJM's queue reform means an unprecedented, sustained volume of interconnection work. This is one of the most technically demanding and in-demand corners of the grid right now - and a small-team, direct-to-leadership seat is a rare way in.

Fully remote, open to candidates based anywhere in the US or Canada.
