About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Remote Agronomist with a specialization in Crop Health to support their farming operations remotely, including those in the Nelspruit region. This position focuses on diagnosing and managing crop diseases, pest infestations, and nutrient deficiencies to ensure optimal plant health and yield. You will utilize remote sensing data, diagnostic tools, and expert knowledge to provide timely and effective recommendations to farm managers and agronomists. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide remote expertise on diagnosing and managing crop diseases, insect pests, and nutrient imbalances.
  • Analyze remote sensing data (satellite imagery, drone data) and field reports to assess crop health status.
  • Develop integrated pest and disease management (IPM) strategies and nutrient management plans.
  • Advise on appropriate use of pesticides, fungicides, and fertilizers based on diagnostic findings.
  • Collaborate with on-site farm managers and agronomists to implement and monitor management strategies.
  • Maintain knowledge of emerging crop health issues and sustainable agricultural practices relevant to the region.

Requirements

  • Master's or PhD degree in Agronomy, Plant Pathology, Entomology, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in agronomy, with a strong focus on crop health diagnostics and management.
  • Proven ability to diagnose plant diseases and pest issues using visual, laboratory, and remote sensing data.
  • Expertise in developing and implementing Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency with agricultural data analysis tools and software.
  • Excellent remote communication, reporting, and consulting skills.
