Remote Chemical Process Engineer - Scale-Up

About the Role

Our client, a dynamic innovator in the specialty chemicals sector, is seeking an experienced Remote Chemical Process Engineer specializing in scale-up to join their expanding technical team. This is a fully remote opportunity, allowing you to contribute to critical projects from anywhere. You will be responsible for the successful transition of chemical processes from laboratory and pilot scales to full commercial production. This involves detailed process design, equipment specification, troubleshooting scale-up challenges, and ensuring robust, safe, and economical operations. Leveraging your expertise in chemical engineering principles and scale-up methodologies, you will collaborate virtually with R&D, engineering, and manufacturing teams to de-risk and accelerate the implementation of new products and processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and engineer chemical processes for scale-up from bench/pilot to commercial production.
• Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and mass and energy balances.
• Specify process equipment, including reactors, heat exchangers, pumps, and separation units.
• Conduct thorough risk assessments and HAZOP studies for new and scaled-up processes.
• Troubleshoot scale-up issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
• Collaborate virtually with R&D chemists, engineers, and manufacturing personnel.
• Ensure process designs comply with all relevant safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
• Prepare technical reports, cost estimates, and project documentation for scale-up initiatives.
• Support the commissioning and startup of new production facilities or process modifications.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in chemical process engineering, with a strong emphasis on scale-up.
• Proven track record of successfully scaling up complex chemical processes.
• Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and CAD tools.
• Strong understanding of unit operations, reaction engineering, and thermodynamics.
• Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) and HAZOP analysis.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, adept at remote collaboration.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple concurrent projects in a remote environment.
