Remote Chemical Process Safety Engineer

About the Role

Our client, a global leader in specialty chemicals, is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Remote Chemical Process Safety Engineer to join their expanding operations team. While based virtually and not tied to a specific office location in Mahikeng, North West, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of process safety across all our manufacturing sites. This role involves conducting rigorous safety assessments, developing and implementing robust safety management systems, and providing expert guidance on hazard identification and risk mitigation. The ideal candidate is passionate about safety, possesses a deep understanding of chemical processes, and excels at remote collaboration. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct and lead Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and What-If studies for new and existing processes.
• Develop, implement, and maintain Process Safety Management (PSM) systems and programs.
• Perform incident investigations and root cause analyses (RCAs) for safety-related events, recommending corrective actions.
• Provide expert technical support and guidance on process safety principles and regulatory requirements.
• Review engineering designs and Management of Change (MOC) processes to ensure safety is integrated from the outset.
• Develop and deliver training programs on process safety to site personnel and engineers.
• Stay current with industry best practices and emerging trends in process safety.
• Collaborate with site personnel, engineering teams, and management to foster a strong safety culture.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience focused specifically on process safety in the chemical industry.
• Thorough knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) standards (e.g., OSHA PSM, EPA RMP).
• Proven experience in conducting various types of PHAs and RCAs.
• Strong understanding of chemical processes, equipment, and industrial safety principles.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex safety concepts.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage responsibilities effectively in a remote work environment.
• Must be based in South Africa and have reliable internet access for remote work.
