About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Remote Construction Health and Safety Officer to ensure the highest standards of safety across their projects. This vital role operates entirely remotely, requiring you to remotely oversee, advise on, and monitor health and safety compliance for construction sites. You will be responsible for developing safety protocols, conducting risk assessments, investigating incidents, and promoting a strong safety culture among site teams and management. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of South African occupational health and safety legislation and have excellent communication skills to effectively engage with teams remotely. Your expertise will be crucial in minimizing risks and ensuring a safe working environment for all personnel.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage health and safety plans for construction projects.
• Conduct risk assessments and hazard identification, proposing control measures.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant occupational health and safety legislation and regulations.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions.
• Deliver health and safety training and toolbox talks to site personnel.
• Perform remote site inspections and audits to verify adherence to safety policies.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Health and Safety role, preferably within the construction sector.
• Recognized qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, SAMTRAC).
• In-depth knowledge of South African OHS Act and related regulations.
• Strong understanding of construction site hazards and control measures.
• Excellent communication, reporting, and training delivery skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and manage responsibilities effectively in a remote setting.
