Remote Energy Economist

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and insightful Remote Energy Economist to join their strategic planning team, supporting initiatives focused on the energy sector in and around Soweto and nationwide. This role requires a deep understanding of energy markets, policy analysis, and economic modeling to provide critical insights for investment decisions, regulatory strategy, and long-term energy planning. Working remotely, you will analyze complex economic data, forecast market trends, and advise stakeholders on the economic implications of energy policies and projects, contributing to the development of sustainable and affordable energy solutions for South Africa.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct economic analysis of the energy sector, including supply and demand forecasting, price volatility, and market dynamics.
• Develop and utilize econometric models to assess the impact of energy policies, regulations, and technological advancements.
• Analyze the financial viability and economic benefits of renewable energy projects and other energy infrastructure investments.
• Provide expert advice on energy market design, pricing mechanisms, and incentive structures.
• Prepare comprehensive economic reports, policy briefs, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
• Monitor global energy markets and identify potential impacts and opportunities for the South African energy landscape.
• Collaborate with policy makers, industry experts, and research institutions remotely.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or PhD in Economics, with a specialization in energy economics, econometrics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in economic analysis, forecasting, and modeling, preferably within the energy sector.
• Strong proficiency in statistical software and econometric modeling tools (e.g., Stata, R, EViews).
• Deep understanding of energy markets, policy frameworks, and regulatory issues in South Africa and globally.
• Excellent analytical, research, and report writing skills.
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment.
