Remote Environmental Scientist - Mining Compliance

About the Role

Our client is looking for a dedicated Remote Environmental Scientist to ensure compliance and sustainability within their mining operations. This hybrid role emphasizes remote data analysis, reporting, and strategy development, complemented by necessary on-site fieldwork and collaboration. You will be responsible for monitoring environmental impacts, developing mitigation strategies, and ensuring adherence to all relevant environmental regulations. Your work will directly contribute to the company's commitment to responsible resource development, safeguarding ecosystems, and maintaining a positive relationship with regulatory bodies and local communities through expert remote environmental stewardship and periodic on-site assessments within the Western Cape's mining landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and assess environmental impacts of mining activities, including water quality, air emissions, and land disturbance.
• Develop and implement environmental management plans and monitoring programs.
• Ensure compliance with national and local environmental regulations and permitting requirements.
• Prepare environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and other regulatory documentation.
• Conduct site inspections and environmental audits, both remotely and on-site, to verify compliance and identify areas for improvement.
• Advise project teams on environmental best practices and mitigation measures.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental management, preferably within the mining or natural resources sector.
• Strong understanding of environmental legislation and permitting processes in South Africa.
• Proficiency in environmental monitoring techniques and data analysis.
• Excellent report writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work autonomously in a remote capacity and effectively collaborate on-site when required.
