About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly qualified Remote Geotechnical Engineer to provide expert analysis and support for their mining operations. This position is crucial for ensuring the stability and safety of underground and open-pit mines, mitigating risks associated with geological structures and ground conditions. Working remotely, you will analyze geotechnical data, design ground support systems, and offer recommendations to mine planning and operations teams. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and their application in mining environments. This role offers the flexibility of remote work while contributing to the safety and efficiency of critical mining infrastructure globally.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed geotechnical assessments of mine sites, including slope stability and underground excavation stability.
- Design and specify appropriate ground support systems (e.g., rock bolts, mesh, shotcrete) for various mining conditions.
- Analyze geotechnical monitoring data and recommend adjustments to operational plans.
- Develop and review geotechnical risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
- Provide technical guidance and support to mine engineers and operational personnel remotely.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in geotechnical engineering and mining practices.
Requirements
- Master's degree or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with a significant portion focused on mining applications.
- Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software (e.g., FLAC, PLAXIS, Rocscience suite).
- Strong understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and geological principles.
- Experience with remote sensing and geotechnical monitoring technologies.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills, especially in a remote setting.
