About the Role

This role is integral to enhancing the reliability, efficiency, and resilience of energy grids across various regions. Operating on a fully remote basis, you will contribute to the strategic planning and implementation of smart grid technologies, advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), and grid automation solutions. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on critical infrastructure projects from anywhere within South Africa , driving the adoption of next-generation energy systems. You will collaborate with a global team of experts focused on transforming the energy landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze existing grid infrastructure and identify areas for modernization and improvement.
• Develop strategies and roadmaps for the implementation of smart grid technologies, including AMI, SCADA, and distribution automation.
• Evaluate and recommend suitable technologies and vendors for grid modernization projects.
• Collaborate with utility partners, engineering teams, and regulatory bodies to facilitate project execution.
• Develop technical specifications, testing protocols, and implementation plans for grid modernization initiatives.
• Monitor the performance of modernized grid components and systems, identifying areas for optimization.
• Stay informed about industry best practices, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes related to grid modernization.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and project documentation for stakeholders.
• Provide expertise and guidance on cybersecurity considerations for smart grid systems.
• Contribute to the development of standards and policies for grid modernization.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• A Master's degree is a plus.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in power systems engineering, utility operations, or grid modernization projects.
• Strong understanding of smart grid technologies, including AMI, DER integration, demand response, and grid automation.
• Experience with grid modeling and simulation software is desirable.
• Familiarity with communication protocols used in smart grids (e.g., DNP3, IEC 61850).
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to address complex technical challenges.
• Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Proven ability to work effectively in a remote, collaborative team environment.
• Knowledge of the South African energy market and regulatory framework is advantageous.
• Must be legally authorized to work in South Africa and comfortable working remotely.
