Remote Head of Compliance

About the Role

Our client is looking for a strategic and experienced Remote Head of Compliance to establish and lead their compliance function. This pivotal role is critical for ensuring adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies across the organization, operating entirely remotely. You will be responsible for developing and implementing a robust compliance program, managing regulatory relationships, and fostering a culture of integrity and ethical conduct throughout the company. This is a leadership opportunity for a seasoned compliance professional who thrives in a distributed work environment and can build and manage a world-class compliance operation from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive compliance program aligned with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee all aspects of regulatory compliance, including AML, KYC, data privacy, and consumer protection regulations.
• Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential compliance vulnerabilities and develop mitigation strategies.
• Establish and manage relationships with regulatory bodies and external auditors.
• Develop and deliver compliance training programs to employees across all levels of the organization.
• Investigate compliance breaches, manage internal investigations, and recommend corrective actions.

Requirements

• Law degree or a Master's degree in a relevant field such as Finance, Business Administration, or Compliance.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in compliance, risk management, or legal roles within the financial services sector.
• Proven experience in designing and implementing effective compliance programs.
• In-depth knowledge of relevant South African and international financial regulations.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across a remote workforce.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage complex projects in a distributed setting.
