Remote Health and Safety Officer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a proactive and experienced Health and Safety Officer to join their team in a fully remote capacity. This position is essential for ensuring that all mining operations, regardless of physical location, adhere to the highest standards of occupational health and safety. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety protocols, conducting risk assessments, and promoting a strong safety culture across the organization. This role offers the flexibility of remote work while playing a critical part in safeguarding the well‑being of all personnel. You will be a key advisor to management on all H&S matters.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety management systems aligned with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.

• Conduct regular risk assessments and site inspections (virtual and, where necessary, with travel) to identify potential hazards and propose control measures.

• Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

• Develop and deliver health and safety training programs to employees at all levels.

• Ensure compliance with all relevant occupational health and safety legislation and standards.

• Advise management on health and safety performance, trends, and areas for improvement.

Requirements

• National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Health and Safety role, preferably within the mining or heavy industry sector.

• Registered with a relevant professional body (e.g., SAIOSH).

• In-depth knowledge of OHS Act, Mine Health and Safety Act, and associated regulations.

• Excellent communication, reporting, and interpersonal skills, suited for remote interaction.

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a remote work environment.
