Remote Health Program Director

About the Role

Our client, a prominent international health non-governmental organization, is seeking an accomplished and visionary Remote Health Program Director to lead their expanding public health initiatives across South Africa . This is a fully remote position, allowing you to contribute to critical health outcomes from anywhere within the country. You will be responsible for the strategic direction, operational oversight, and programmatic success of our health interventions, focusing on areas such as maternal and child health, infectious disease control, and health systems strengthening. This role requires a deep understanding of public health principles, exceptional leadership capabilities, and a proven ability to manage complex projects and teams in a virtual environment. Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and direction for all health programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and public health priorities.
• Oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of program strategies, work plans, and budgets.
• Manage and mentor a diverse team of health professionals, program managers, and support staff located remotely.
• Cultivate and maintain strong partnerships with government health ministries, local health authorities, international organizations, and other stakeholders.
• Ensure program quality, effectiveness, and impact through robust monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
• Lead fundraising efforts, including proposal development and donor engagement, to secure resources for health programs.
• Represent the organization in relevant health forums, technical working groups, and conferences.
• Stay abreast of the latest research, best practices, and innovations in public health.
• Manage program risks and ensure compliance with all organizational policies and donor requirements.

Requirements

• Doctorate (MD, PhD) or Master's degree in Public Health, Health Administration, International Health, or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in managing complex public health programs, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
• Proven experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating health interventions in resource-limited settings.
• Strong understanding of health systems in South Africa and key public health challenges.
• Exceptional leadership, team management, and strategic planning skills.
• Demonstrated success in fundraising, proposal writing, and donor relations.
• Proficiency in using virtual collaboration tools, project management software, and data analysis platforms.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and lead a distributed team effectively in a remote setting.
