Remote Health & Safety Officer

About the Role

Our client seeks a dedicated and knowledgeable Remote Health & Safety Officer to ensure compliance with safety standards across various construction sites nationally, with a particular focus on projects within the Free State province. This role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring safety policies and procedures remotely, using digital tools to conduct virtual inspections and risk assessments. You will play a crucial role in fostering a strong safety culture, minimizing risks, and ensuring the well‑being of all personnel involved in construction activities, all from the comfort of your own workspace.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety programs for construction projects.
• Conduct remote risk assessments and identify potential hazards, recommending and implementing preventative measures.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant occupational health and safety legislation and industry standards.
• Deliver safety training and toolbox talks virtually to site teams and management.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, preparing detailed reports and proposing corrective actions.
• Maintain safety records, conduct safety audits, and prepare compliance documentation.

Requirements

• Relevant qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NOSA, SAMTRAC).
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably within the construction sector.
• In‑depth knowledge of South African health and safety legislation (e.g., OHS Act).
• Proficiency in using digital tools for communication, documentation, and reporting in a remote setting.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
