Remote Health & Safety Officer - Construction Sites

About the Role

Our client is looking for a dedicated and knowledgeable Health & Safety Officer to remotely oversee safety compliance for their construction projects. In this critical role, you will develop, implement, and monitor health and safety programs to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel, irrespective of their physical location on project sites. You will conduct risk assessments, investigate incidents, and provide expert guidance on safety protocols and regulatory compliance. This position requires strong communication skills and the ability to influence safety culture from a distance, working in close partnership with on-site teams to foster a proactive safety mindset across all operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures for construction sites.
• Conduct remote risk assessments and safety audits, identifying potential hazards and non-compliance issues.
• Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Provide expert advice and training on health and safety regulations and best practices.
• Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and documentation.
• Liaise with site management and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance.

Requirements

• Relevant qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, SAMTRAC).
• Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in the construction industry.
• Thorough knowledge of South African OHS Act and construction regulations.
• Excellent communication, reporting, and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage responsibilities effectively in a remote capacity.
