About the Role
Our client is looking for a visionary Lead Data Scientist specializing in Energy Analytics to join their fully remote team. In this critical role, you will spearhead the development and deployment of advanced analytical models to derive actionable insights from vast datasets related to energy production, consumption, and market trends. You will guide a team of data scientists, foster a culture of data-driven decision-making, and play a key role in shaping the company's strategic direction in the energy sector, irrespective of your physical location within South Africa .
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of predictive models and machine learning algorithms for energy forecasting and optimization.
- Manage and mentor a team of data scientists, fostering their professional growth and ensuring high-quality output.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across engineering, operations, and business development to identify key analytical challenges and opportunities.
- Translate complex analytical findings into clear, concise, and actionable recommendations for business leaders.
- Develop and maintain robust data pipelines and infrastructure for large-scale energy datasets.
- Stay at the forefront of data science and machine learning research, applying new techniques to solve business problems.
Requirements
- Master's or PhD in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
- Extensive experience (8+ years) as a Data Scientist, with at least 3 years in a leadership role .
- Proven expertise in building and deploying machine learning models for energy analytics or similar domains.
- Proficiency in programming languages like Python or R, and associated data science libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Strong experience with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical audiences.
