Remote Lead Geotechnical Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking an exceptional and experienced Lead Geotechnical Engineer to join their team on a fully remote basis, ideally based within South Africa . This senior role will provide expert guidance on geotechnical investigations, slope stability analysis, ground support design, and risk assessment for mining projects globally. You will lead a remote team of geotechnical engineers, collaborate with project managers and operational teams, and ensure the highest standards of safety and technical excellence. This is a crucial position for an individual looking to leverage their expertise in a leading role within a globally recognized mining consultancy.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage geotechnical investigations and studies for mining projects, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
• Perform advanced geotechnical analyses, including slope stability, rock mechanics, and seismic assessments.
• Develop and implement ground support designs and strategies for underground and open-pit mining operations.
• Conduct risk assessments related to geological hazards and develop mitigation strategies.
• Mentor and guide junior geotechnical engineers, fostering technical development and project execution skills.
• Liaise with clients, project managers, and other engineering disciplines to provide expert geotechnical input.
• Ensure all work adheres to international best practices and relevant South African standards where applicable.

Requirements

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering , with significant experience in the mining sector.
• Proven experience in leading project teams and providing technical mentorship.
• Expertise in geotechnical software packages (e.g., Rocscience suite, FLAC, GeoStudio).
• Strong understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and underground/open-pit mining methods.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly.
