About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and visionary Lead Mechanical Engineer with specialized expertise in thermal management to join their team in a fully remote capacity, supporting their operations which may include projects in the Nelspruit region. This senior role will lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced thermal solutions for complex electronic and mechanical systems. You will be responsible for driving innovation in heat transfer, cooling technologies, and thermal system design, ensuring optimal performance and reliability under various operating conditions. This is a critical leadership position for an engineer passionate about pushing the boundaries of thermal engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and analysis of thermal management systems, including heat sinks, fans, liquid cooling solutions, and thermal interface materials.
  • Perform detailed thermal analysis using CFD software (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL) to predict and optimize temperature distributions.
  • Develop innovative thermal management strategies for high-power density electronic devices and mechanical systems.
  • Define thermal performance requirements and testing methodologies, overseeing validation and verification processes.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, software developers, and product managers, in a virtual environment.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on thermal design principles and best practices.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in thermodynamics or heat transfer.
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in thermal management design and analysis.
  • Demonstrated expertise in CFD modeling and simulation of complex thermal systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of heat transfer principles, fluid dynamics, and material properties relevant to thermal performance.
  • Proven ability to lead projects and technical teams in a remote or distributed work environment.
