Remote Lead Process Engineer - Optimization

About the Role

Our client, a global leader in specialty chemicals manufacturing, is seeking an experienced and innovative Remote Lead Process Engineer to drive process optimization initiatives across their international operations. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to leverage your expertise from anywhere. You will be responsible for identifying and implementing significant improvements in efficiency, yield, energy consumption, and safety within existing chemical processes. This role requires a deep understanding of chemical engineering principles, advanced data analysis capabilities, and a proven track record of successful process optimization projects, all managed through effective virtual collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional teams in identifying opportunities for process improvement through data analysis, process modeling, and operational reviews.
• Develop and implement advanced control strategies and process optimization techniques to enhance operational performance.
• Conduct detailed root cause analysis for process inefficiencies or deviations and propose effective solutions.
• Oversee the design and execution of pilot studies and plant trials to validate optimization strategies.
• Collaborate with plant engineers and operations personnel globally via virtual communication channels to implement process changes.
• Ensure all proposed optimizations align with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
• Develop business cases and proposals for process improvement projects, quantifying potential benefits.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers in the principles of process optimization and data analysis.
• Stay abreast of new technologies and methodologies in process optimization and control.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of process improvements and best practices.

Requirements

• Master's or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from an accredited university.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in process engineering, with a significant focus on process optimization and efficiency improvement in the chemical industry.
• Proven expertise in statistical process control (SPC), Design of Experiments (DOE), and data analytics tools (e.g., Python, R, JMP).
• Experience with advanced process control (APC) and model predictive control (MPC) is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of chemical process fundamentals and unit operations.
• Excellent remote collaboration, communication, and project management skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and drive results in a remote setting.
• Demonstrated success in implementing cost-saving and efficiency improvement initiatives.
• Experience in optimizing processes relevant to industrial hubs like Benoni is beneficial, though the role is remote.
