Remote Lead Software Engineer - Cloud Infrastructure

About the Role

Our client, a rapidly expanding SaaS company with a global presence, is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Lead Software Engineer to spearhead their remote Cloud Infrastructure team. This is a fully remote position, open to candidates across South Africa who are passionate about building and scaling robust, high-availability cloud platforms. You will be responsible for architecting, developing, and maintaining our core infrastructure, utilizing cutting-edge technologies in cloud computing, containerization, and CI/CD pipelines. This role demands strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of distributed systems, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. You will mentor a team of talented engineers, drive technical strategy, and ensure the reliability and performance of our services, all from the comfort of your home office.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of scalable and resilient cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Architect and implement robust CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, deployment, and infrastructure management.
• Oversee the implementation and management of container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes.
• Develop and enforce best practices for infrastructure security, monitoring, and logging.
• Mentor and guide a team of software engineers, fostering a high-performance culture and technical excellence.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to understand requirements and translate them into infrastructure solutions.
• Drive technical roadmap decisions and technology selection for cloud infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure issues in production environments.
• Champion automation efforts to reduce manual intervention and improve operational efficiency.
• Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with a significant focus on cloud infrastructure and DevOps.
• Proven experience leading engineering teams, preferably in a remote setting.
• Deep expertise in at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Strong proficiency in infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible).
• Extensive experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Solid understanding of CI/CD principles and tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI).
• Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash) and at least one backend programming language (Go, Java, Node.js).
• Excellent understanding of networking, security, and system administration principles.
• Exceptional problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills in a remote context.
