About the Role
Our client is seeking a proactive and experienced Remote Legal Compliance Officer to uphold the highest standards of legal and regulatory adherence across their operations. Working entirely from home, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring compliance programs, policies, and procedures. This role demands a deep understanding of relevant South African laws and industry-specific regulations, coupled with the ability to translate complex legal requirements into actionable business practices. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive legal compliance framework across all business units.
- Conduct regular compliance audits and risk assessments to identify potential areas of non-compliance.
- Interpret new legislation and regulations, assessing their impact and ensuring timely implementation of necessary changes.
- Develop and deliver compliance training programs to employees at all levels.
- Investigate compliance breaches and recommend corrective actions and preventive measures.
- Maintain accurate records of compliance activities and prepare regular compliance reports for senior management.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies and external auditors regarding compliance matters.
Requirements
- Admitted Attorney or equivalent legal qualification with at least 6 years of experience in legal compliance, risk management, or a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of South African corporate law, data protection (POPIA), consumer protection, and other relevant regulatory frameworks.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing compliance policies and procedures.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex legal documents.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all organizational levels.
- Proficiency in using compliance management software and digital tools for remote collaboration.
