Remote Mortgage Underwriter

About the Role

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Remote Mortgage Underwriter to join their growing team. This position is fully remote and requires a thorough understanding of mortgage lending guidelines, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance. You will be responsible for evaluating loan applications, analyzing borrower financials, property valuations, and credit histories to determine loan eligibility and risk. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, possesses strong analytical skills, and can work independently while maintaining high standards of accuracy and efficiency in a remote work setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and analyze mortgage loan applications, including borrower credit, income, assets, and liabilities.
• Assess loan-to-value ratios, debt-to-income ratios, and other key financial metrics.
• Ensure all loans meet company underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements (e.g., FHA, VA, Conventional).
• Identify potential risks and red flags in loan applications and request necessary documentation.
• Make sound decisions on loan approval, denial, or counter-offer based on established criteria.
• Communicate effectively with loan officers, processors, and other stakeholders regarding loan decisions and requirements.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Mortgage Underwriter.
• In-depth knowledge of mortgage underwriting principles, federal regulations, and secondary market guidelines.
• Proficiency in underwriting software and loan origination systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to manage a high volume of loan files independently in a remote environment.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
