About the Role

Our client, a leading telecommunications provider, is actively seeking a dedicated Remote Network Operations Center (NOC) Engineer to join their fully remote team. This role is essential for the continuous monitoring, management, and troubleshooting of our client's national network infrastructure. You will be the first line of defense against network disruptions, ensuring high availability and optimal performance of critical services. This is a remote-first opportunity, allowing you to work from anywhere within South Africa. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a comprehensive understanding of network protocols and hardware. You will work closely with Tier 2/3 support teams and field technicians to resolve incidents efficiently.

This position demands vigilance, rapid response capabilities, and a commitment to maintaining seamless connectivity for our client's customers across all regions, including Polokwane, Limpopo. Your contribution will be vital in upholding the reliability of our client's extensive network.

Key Responsibilities

• Continuously monitor network performance and availability using various NOC tools and dashboards.
• Identify, diagnose, and resolve network incidents and service disruptions in real-time.
• Escalate complex issues to appropriate support teams (Tier 2/3, vendors) with detailed incident information.
• Perform initial troubleshooting of network devices, including routers, switches, and firewalls.
• Respond to alerts and alarms promptly, following established incident management procedures.
• Document all network incidents, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions accurately in the ticketing system.
• Communicate network status and issue updates to relevant stakeholders during major incidents.
• Contribute to the improvement of NOC processes, tools, and documentation.
• Participate in shift work to provide 24/7 network monitoring coverage.

Requirements

• A relevant qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 1-3 years of experience in a Network Operations Center (NOC) or similar network support role.
• Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and other core networking concepts.
• Familiarity with network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, or Zabbix.
• Basic knowledge of routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP) and switching technologies.
• Experience with ticketing systems (e.g., Jira, ServiceNow).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, particularly in a remote setting.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
