About the Role

Our client is seeking a proactive and experienced Remote Safety Officer to support their extensive mining operations. This role is designed for a dedicated professional who can provide crucial health and safety oversight from a remote location, ensuring that all mine sites adhere to the highest safety standards and regulatory requirements. You will be responsible for developing and implementing safety protocols, conducting virtual risk assessments, analyzing safety data, and promoting a strong safety culture across geographically dispersed teams. This is a unique opportunity for a safety expert who excels in a remote work environment and can effectively influence safety practices without direct on-site supervision, leveraging technology to maintain rigorous standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive health and safety management systems for mining operations.
  • Conduct remote risk assessments and safety audits using virtual tools and data analysis.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and accidents, providing detailed reports and corrective action plans.
  • Promote and champion a strong safety culture through online training, communication campaigns, and engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant national and international health and safety legislation and standards.
  • Maintain accurate safety records and statistics, and prepare regular safety performance reports.

Requirements

  • Relevant degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a safety role within the mining industry.
  • Sound knowledge of OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001 and relevant mining safety regulations.
  • Proven ability to conduct effective risk assessments and develop safety procedures.
  • Excellent communication, reporting, and presentation skills, particularly in a virtual setting.
  • Proficiency in safety management software and remote collaboration tools.
