About the Role
Our client is actively seeking an accomplished Senior Computational Biologist to join their pioneering research team on a fully remote basis, based in Port Elizabeth . This vital role focuses on applying sophisticated computational and statistical methods to decode complex biological systems and drive the discovery of novel therapeutics. You will play a key role in analyzing vast datasets generated from high-throughput screening, genomics, and proteomics experiments, providing critical insights that shape research strategies. The successful candidate will be an independent thinker with exceptional analytical skills, passionate about utilizing data-driven approaches to unravel biological mysteries and contribute to significant advancements in medicine, all within a flexible, remote-first environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement advanced computational and statistical analyses of large-scale biological datasets, including transcriptomics, proteomics, and single-cell data.
- Develop and maintain scalable bioinformatics pipelines for data processing, quality control, and interpretation.
- Collaborate with experimental biologists and clinicians to formulate research hypotheses and translate data findings into actionable insights.
- Utilize machine learning and data mining techniques to identify key biological drivers, biomarkers, and therapeutic targets.
- Contribute to the development of new computational tools and algorithms to enhance biological understanding.
- Effectively communicate complex scientific findings and methodologies to diverse audiences through reports, presentations, and publications.
Requirements
- PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in computational biology, with a significant focus on analyzing complex biological data.
- Strong programming skills in Python or R, with extensive experience using bioinformatics libraries and tools.
- Deep understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning, and data visualization techniques applicable to biological data.
- Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and high-performance computing environments is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote setting, demonstrating excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
