Remote Senior Geologist - Petroleum Systems

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Geologist with specialized knowledge in petroleum systems to join their esteemed exploration team in a fully remote capacity, supporting projects potentially in the vicinity of Stellenbosch. This pivotal role involves assessing the potential for hydrocarbon generation, migration, and accumulation in new and existing basins. You will utilize your deep understanding of geological processes to de-risk exploration opportunities and identify high-potential plays within the oil and gas industry. Key Responsibilities

• Analyze geological, geochemical, and geophysical data to define and evaluate petroleum systems.
• Model source rock potential, maturation history, migration pathways, and reservoir quality.
• Assess seal integrity and identify potential hydrocarbon accumulation mechanisms.
• Conduct basin analysis and play fairway mapping to prioritize exploration targets.
• Collaborate with exploration managers and subsurface teams to develop exploration strategies.
• Prepare detailed technical reports and present findings and recommendations.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Geology, Geochemistry, or a related field with a focus on petroleum systems.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in exploration geology, with significant exposure to petroleum system analysis.
• Proficiency in relevant software for basin modeling, source rock analysis, and data integration.
• Strong understanding of structural geology, sedimentology, and stratigraphy.
• Experience working with diverse geological datasets and global basins.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
