Remote Senior Software Engineer - Backend Development

About the Role

Our client is a rapidly growing technology firm looking for an exceptional Remote Senior Software Engineer specializing in Backend Development. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere in South Africa while contributing to a dynamic and collaborative engineering team. You will play a key role in designing, developing, and deploying robust, scalable, and high-performance backend systems. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient backend services and APIs using languages such as Python, Java, Go, or Node.js.
• Architect and implement robust database solutions, including relational and NoSQL databases.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to define and implement new features.
• Write clean, well-documented, and thoroughly tested code.
• Optimize applications for maximum speed, scalability, and reliability.
• Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment.
• Mentor junior software engineers and provide technical guidance.
• Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and adherence to best practices.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, ensuring system stability.
• Contribute to architectural discussions and technical decision-making.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional experience in backend software development.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, Java, Go, C#, Node.js).
• Strong experience with database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis).
• Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs.
• Solid understanding of software design patterns and architectural principles (e.g., microservices, event-driven architecture).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and related services.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration abilities, essential for a remote team.
