Remote Senior Solar PV Installation and Commissioning Engineer

About the Role

Our client, a leading company in the solar energy sector, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Solar PV Installation and Commissioning Engineer. This is a remote-first role, demanding extensive travel to project sites for the installation, setup, and operational testing of photovoltaic (PV) solar systems. You will be responsible for ensuring that large-scale solar installations are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all relevant standards and regulations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in solar PV technology, electrical engineering principles, and project management, coupled with proven leadership capabilities. Your role will be instrumental in deploying clean energy solutions across various regions.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage the installation of solar PV arrays, including panel mounting, wiring, and inverter integration.
• Lead the commissioning process for solar PV systems, conducting thorough testing and performance verification.
• Ensure all installations and commissioning activities adhere to electrical codes, safety standards (e.g., IEC standards), and project specifications.
• Develop detailed installation plans, site layouts, and method statements.
• Conduct site surveys and assessments to evaluate feasibility and identify potential installation challenges.
• Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues related to system performance and connectivity.
• Train and mentor junior engineers and installation teams on-site.
• Maintain accurate project documentation, including as-built drawings, test reports, and commissioning logs.
• Liaise with clients, project managers, and regulatory bodies to ensure smooth project execution.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in solar PV technology and installation best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience in the installation and commissioning of solar PV systems, preferably large-scale projects.
• Proficiency in interpreting electrical schematics, PV system designs, and building plans.
• Strong understanding of grid-tied and off-grid solar PV systems, battery storage solutions, and relevant inverters.
• Knowledge of electrical safety procedures and regulations pertinent to solar installations.
• Proven project management and leadership skills.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication abilities.
• Ability to travel extensively to project sites as required.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) or Technologist (Pr. Tech. Eng.) registration with ECSA is highly advantageous.
• Valid driver’s license.
