About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Environmental Scientist to lead their remote environmental monitoring and compliance efforts across various mining sites. This position is key to ensuring adherence to all environmental regulations and promoting sustainable mining practices. You will analyze environmental data from remote sensing, sensor networks, and site reports to assess impacts, develop mitigation strategies, and ensure regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and oversee remote environmental monitoring programs for air quality, water quality, and biodiversity.
• Analyze environmental data, identify trends, and assess compliance with regulatory standards and permits.
• Prepare comprehensive environmental impact assessments, management plans, and compliance reports.
• Provide expert advice and guidance to site environmental officers and management teams on environmental best practices.
• Research and recommend innovative technologies and methodologies for environmental monitoring and remediation.
• Stay current with evolving environmental legislation and industry standards.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in environmental management, monitoring, and compliance, preferably within the mining industry.
• Proficiency in environmental data analysis software and GIS tools.
• Strong understanding of environmental legislation and permitting processes in South Africa and internationally.
• Excellent report writing, communication, and presentation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage projects and provide expert consultation in a remote work environment.
