Senior Exploration Geologist - Remote

About the Role

The successful candidate will be based in Midrand, Gauteng, ZA , but will operate remotely, interacting with teams across various global time zones.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geological mapping, sampling, and core logging to identify and define mineralised zones.
• Plan and supervise exploration drilling programs, including target generation, geophysical surveying oversight, and geochemical analysis interpretation.
• Utilise advanced geological software and databases for data management, interpretation, and modelling of mineral deposits.
• Perform resource estimation and technical reporting in compliance with international standards (e.g., JORC, NI 43-101).
• Collaborate with geophysicists, geochemists, and other specialists to integrate diverse datasets and refine exploration models.
• Conduct thorough literature reviews and assess geological potential of new exploration areas.
• Contribute to the development of exploration strategies and budgets.
• Prepare high-quality technical reports and presentations for senior management and stakeholders.
• Mentor and guide junior geologists, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
• Ensure all activities are conducted with a strong emphasis on health, safety, and environmental best practices.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field from a recognized institution.
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in mineral exploration, with a strong focus on gold, base metals, or relevant commodities.
• Demonstrated success in discovering and defining economic mineral deposits.
• Proficiency in geological modeling software (e.g., Leapfrog, ioGAS, Datamine, Vulcan).
• Excellent understanding of geophysical and geochemical exploration techniques and data interpretation.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, essential for remote collaboration.
• Ability to work autonomously, manage time effective, and meet project deadlines in a remote setting.
• Previous experience with remote work setups and virtual team collaboration tools.
• Willingness to occasionally travel for site visits or team meetings as required (post-COVID considerations).
