Our client is seeking a highly experienced and accomplished Senior Mine Geotechnical Engineer to join their global team in a fully remote capacity, supporting operations near East London . This pivotal role focuses on ensuring the stability and integrity of underground and open-pit mining structures through expert analysis and design. You will leverage your extensive knowledge of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and geological principles to assess risks, develop mitigation strategies, and provide critical geotechnical insights that underpin safe and efficient mining operations. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct advanced geotechnical analyses for underground excavations, open pits, and slope stability.
• Develop and review designs for ground support systems, rock bolting, and shotcrete applications.
• Assess the stability of mine waste facilities, including tailings dams and waste rock dumps.
• Plan and manage geotechnical investigations, including drilling, logging, and in-situ testing.
• Interpret geotechnical data and provide recommendations for safe operating parameters and mine design modifications.
• Utilize specialized geotechnical modeling software to simulate ground behavior and assess risks.
• Collaborate remotely with mine planning, operations, and exploration teams to integrate geotechnical considerations into all project phases.

Requirements

• Master's or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in mine geotechnical engineering, with a strong portfolio of complex projects.
• Expertise in numerical modeling techniques and software for geotechnical analysis (e.g., FLAC, UDEC, RocData).
• Deep understanding of rock mass characterization, slope stability, and underground support design.
• Proven ability to manage projects, mentor junior engineers, and communicate complex technical information effectively.
• Experience working in a remote or distributed team environment.
