Senior Road Design Engineer - Remote

About the Role Our client, a leading infrastructure development firm, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Road Design Engineer to join their fully remote team. This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to significant transportation projects across South Africa, working entirely from your home office. You will be responsible for the planning, design, and technical oversight of road infrastructure projects, including highways, urban roads, and arterial routes. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in geometric design, traffic engineering principles, and proficiency with relevant design software. Excellent communication, leadership, and self-management skills are essential for this remote-first position.

We are looking for a dedicated professional who can bring innovative design solutions and extensive experience to our client's projects, impacting infrastructure development relevant to Soweto and surrounding areas.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design of road infrastructure projects, including geometric design, intersection design, and pavement design.
• Develop detailed design drawings, specifications, and construction documents using CAD and other relevant software.
• Conduct road capacity analysis and traffic impact studies.
• Ensure designs comply with South African national and provincial road design standards and guidelines.
• Collaborate effectively with clients, government authorities, environmental consultants, and other project stakeholders in a remote setting.
• Perform site investigations and data analysis to inform design decisions.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources for road design components.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior road design engineers.
• Review contractor submittals and respond to RFIs during the construction phase.
• Contribute to the development of design standards and best practices within the team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Transportation or Road Design.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA or eligibility for registration.
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in road design engineering.
• Proficiency in road design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Civil Designer, or similar.
• Experience with traffic modeling software (e.g., SIDRA, VISSIM) is advantageous.
• Strong understanding of geometric design principles, pavement engineering, and drainage design for roads.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, crucial for remote collaboration.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
• Experience in contract administration and site supervision is a plus.
