Remote Senior Bioinformatician - Genomics

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Bioinformatician with a specialization in Genomics to join their distributed research team. This is a fully remote position, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere within the specified region while contributing to cutting-edge scientific discoveries. You will be responsible for developing and applying advanced computational approaches to analyze large-scale genomic datasets, driving insights that are crucial for our client's research initiatives. This role requires a deep understanding of bioinformatics principles, strong programming skills, and the ability to work independently in a virtual environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain robust bioinformatics pipelines for the analysis of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data, including whole-genome, exome, and RNA-seq.
• Perform complex statistical analyses and develop machine learning models to identify genetic variants, gene expression patterns, and functional genomic elements.
• Collaborate with geneticists, biologists, and clinicians to interpret genomic findings and translate them into actionable research insights.
• Develop and optimize algorithms for sequence alignment, variant calling, and genome annotation, ensuring scalability and efficiency.
• Contribute to the development of scientific publications and presentations, effectively communicating complex bioinformatics concepts.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation for all pipelines, scripts, and analyses, ensuring reproducibility and adherence to best practices in Genomics research.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
• Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience in bioinformatics, with a significant focus on genomic data analysis .
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Perl, and extensive experience with command-line environments (Linux/Unix).
• Strong knowledge of bioinformatics tools and databases relevant to NGS data analysis (e.g., "GATK", "BWA", "STAR", "IGV").
• Solid understanding of statistical genetics, population genetics, and machine learning methodologies.
• Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple projects effectively in a remote setting.
