About the Role

Our client is seeking an innovative Remote Data Scientist with a specialization in Finance to join their forward-thinking team, supporting operations nationwide from their administrative hub near Mahikeng . This fully remote role is at the forefront of leveraging advanced analytics, machine learning, and statistical modeling to solve complex financial challenges, enhance decision-making, and drive product innovation. You will work with large datasets to uncover insights, build predictive models for risk assessment, fraud detection, and customer behavior. The ideal candidate possesses a strong blend of technical expertise, analytical rigor, and a solid understanding of the financial services industry, enabling them to translate data into actionable business strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models for applications such as credit scoring, fraud detection, and algorithmic trading.
  • Analyze large, complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights relevant to financial markets.
  • Build and maintain data pipelines, ensuring data quality, integrity, and accessibility for analysis.
  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders to define data science project requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Communicate complex findings and model results clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences through visualizations and reports.
  • Stay current with the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
  • Contribute to the development of data-driven strategies and product enhancements.

Requirements

  • Master's or Ph.D. in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of professional experience as a Data Scientist, with a significant focus on financial applications.
  • Strong programming skills in Python or R, including experience with relevant libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow).
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop).
  • Solid understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and experimental design.
  • Experience in the Banking & Finance sector, including knowledge of financial products and markets.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a remote, collaborative environment.
