Remote Exploration Geologist

About the Role

Our client is looking for a skilled and motivated Remote Exploration Geologist to join their forward-thinking team, working from anywhere in South Africa , with an initial focus on projects potentially involving areas like Mossel Bay, Western Cape . This fully remote position is integral to identifying and evaluating new hydrocarbon prospects. You will leverage advanced geophysical data, geological models, and regional studies to pinpoint areas of interest for exploration activities. This role demands a self-starter who can collaborate effectively with dispersed teams and contribute expert geological insights from a remote setting, supporting the company's global exploration strategy without the need for physical office presence.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret seismic data, well logs, and core samples to identify and characterize potential hydrocarbon plays.
• Develop and refine geological models for exploration blocks.
• Conduct regional geological studies and basin analysis to support exploration strategies.
• Collaborate with geophysicists, petrophysicists, and reservoir engineers in a virtual environment.
• Prepare technical reports, prospect evaluations, and risk assessments for management.
• Utilize advanced GIS and geological software for data analysis and visualization.

Requirements

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geology, Geophysics, or a related Earth Science field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in exploration geology, preferably within the Oil & Gas industry .
• Proficiency in seismic interpretation software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom Suite).
• Strong understanding of basin analysis , sequence stratigraphy, and structural geology.
• Experience with prospect risking and portfolio management.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and remote work management skills.
