About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Data Privacy Lawyer to join their legal team on a fully remote basis. This is a critical role focused on ensuring the company's compliance with global data protection regulations, including POPIA and GDPR. You will advise on privacy risks, develop data protection policies, and manage data breach responses. This position requires deep expertise in privacy law and the ability to navigate complex legal landscapes from anywhere, contributing to the company's commitment to robust data protection practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert legal advice on all aspects of data privacy and protection laws.
• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive data privacy policies and procedures.
• Conduct data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) and advise on mitigation strategies.
• Manage data breach incidents, including investigations, notifications, and remediation efforts.
• Advise on data processing agreements, cross-border data transfers, and third-party risk management.
• Train and guide internal teams on data privacy best practices and compliance requirements.

Requirements

• Admitted Attorney with a minimum of 6 years of post-qualification experience, with a significant focus on data privacy and information law .
• In-depth knowledge of South African POPIA, GDPR, and other relevant international privacy regulations.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing data privacy programs.
• Excellent analytical, drafting, and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage complex projects in a remote setting.
• Strong understanding of technology and its implications for data privacy.
