About the Role

Our client, a global leader in Oil & Gas exploration and production, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Reservoir Simulation Engineer to join their team on a fully remote basis. This is a pivotal role focused on building, calibrating, and utilizing advanced reservoir simulation models to predict reservoir performance, optimize recovery strategies, and support field development decisions. The ideal candidate will possess a profound understanding of reservoir engineering principles, numerical simulation techniques, and sophisticated software platforms. You will work closely with geoscientists and other engineering disciplines across various global projects, contributing to maximizing asset value. This is a unique opportunity to leverage your expertise from anywhere, contributing significantly to the Oil & Gas industry without geographical constraints.

This remote-first role demands exceptional self-discipline and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, initialize, and run complex three-dimensional reservoir simulation models for black oil, compositional, and thermal systems.
  • Perform history matching and uncertainty analysis to ensure model reliability and validate predictions.
  • Analyze simulation results to assess reservoir potential, optimize well placement, and design enhanced oil recovery (EOR) projects.
  • Utilize industry-standard simulation software (e.g., ECLIPSE, CMG, Petrel RE) and associated pre/post-processing tools.
  • Collaborate effectively with geologists, geophysicists, and production engineers to integrate static and dynamic data into simulation models.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports, presentations, and recommendations based on simulation studies.
  • Mentor and guide junior simulation engineers and provide technical leadership.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in reservoir simulation technology and methodologies.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of best practices in reservoir modeling and simulation.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or PhD in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in reservoir simulation, with a strong track record in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Expertise in using major reservoir simulation software packages and associated software.
  • Proven ability in history matching complex reservoirs and performing advanced simulation studies.
  • Strong understanding of reservoir characterization, fluid properties, and numerical methods.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts remotely.
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote work setting.
  • Demonstrated experience working with multidisciplinary teams.

Benefits

Our client offers a highly competitive salary, comprehensive benefits package, and opportunities for continuous professional development, all within a fully remote work structure. This role provides unparalleled flexibility while contributing to impactful Oil & Gas projects globally. We value our remote workforce and provide the necessary tools and support to ensure success. While the role is remote, it is associated with our Gauteng operations hub for administrative purposes.
